A street elbow has a female fitting on one end and a male fitting on the other end.

The spigot end of the fitting is meant to fit into another fitting, so it has the same outer diameter (OD) as PVC pipe of the same nominal size. The slip end of this 90-degree elbow is compatible with schedule 40 PVC pipe.
